Great North Run Quorum Entrants

Raising money for Maggie’s Centre and other worthwhile causes

The Bupa Great North Run is the premier event in the Great Run series and firmly established as the world’s greatest half marathon.

Starting in Newcastle, the course takes in the iconic Tyne Bridge, goes through Gateshead passing the famous international athletics stadium and finishes in the coastal town of South Shields. Live music, on-course refreshments and thousands of cheering supporters will keep you motivated every step of the way.

Many world class athletes have taken on the challenge including local international and winner of the very first race, Mike McLeod as well as some of the most famous names in distance running;
Paula Radcliffe and Haile Gebrselassie. The course record was set in 2011 when Kenyan Martin Mathathi stormed to victory in just 59 minutes and 27 seconds.

The Bupa Great North Run is not only part of the cultural fabric of the North East, but has touched lives across the UK and around the world – last year’s event saw runners from over 40 different countries taking part.

Staff across the park took part in this fantastic challenge helping to raise money for various charities across the North East!

Team Convergys took part in the GNR raising money for Maggie’s Centre at the Freeman hospital their charity partner. They are still raising funds until the end of September to reach their target of £2750.

Sara Parker from Convergys said, “It was great to be a part of such an amazing event, especially as it was the GNR Million. Although both physically and mentally tough at times the atmosphere and enthusiasm was second to none with the crowds cheering and dishing out fruit, biscuits, and ice lollies and keeping runners cool with hosepipes throughout the entire 13.1 miles. It gives a huge sense of pride to those of us from the North East and a sense of satisfaction to those who have chosen to relocate here. All 14 runners from Convergys did a fantastic job putting in their all and most already have their name down for next year. Maggie’s is a fantastic Charity and all 10 runners were extremely proud to be representing and raising funds. Well done to all of the Convergys runners as well as the other runners on the park you all did a fantastic job.”

This is a success message.
