Newcastle Can Challenge

24 Aug 2017 to 30 Sep 2017

Submit a team to the Newcastle Can Business Challenge and you could win an evening with celebrity chef Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

Newcastle Can

‚ÄėNewcastle Can‚Äô is an initiative headed up by TV chef and campaigner Hugh¬†Fearnley-Whittingstall¬†that aims to tackle the obesity crisis and encourage healthier lifestyles.¬†

The obesity crisis is recognised as the single biggest threat to the nation’s health, and costs UK society a whopping £73 billion per year through medical costs and decreased productivity. Newcastle Can aims to get the citizens of one city, acting together and supporting each other, to create a new model for successfully combating the problem. The ultimate goal is to see Newcastle losing a collective 100,000lb, to come together as a community and most importantly have loads of fun along the way!

We're looking to get business across the city (and anywhere with an NE postcode involved). It’s really easy to get on board: you can simply create a company team at www.newcastlecan.com and then invite your employees to join. We'll then provide you with loads of information about healthy eating and exercise, as well as details of upcoming events and local resources, and work with you to set challenges and incentives. We've got a great September business challenge coming up too - see below.

September challenge.

Full details and how to set up a team here.

**An exclusive evening with Hugh**

To add a little bit of healthy competition to Newcastle Can, we're getting businesses to go head to head!

For the month of September, the business team that loses the most amount of weight will win a cooking demo evening where they'll get to meet Hugh, hear all about him and the campaign, learn a new recipe and be inspired to keep the challenge going.

We will also announce the winner online with a dedicated post (and lots of respect from all of us at Newcastle Can!).

We'll also be announcing online and giving a HUGE shout out across our website and social media to the team that loses the most average weight per person.

We also want to know what you're doing and the fun ways that you're engaging your staff! Ready, set, GO!

The People’s Kitchen Donation Campaign

Donate food to the People's Kitchen and help the homeless and disadvantaged this Autumn.

The People's Kitchen have been supporting the homeless and disadvantaged in Newcastle since 1985  and serve over  40,000 hot meals a year.

They rely solely on donations from volunteers.

We're looking for donations of non perishable food that can be used in their kitchens. Any non perishable items are items that are particularly useful are

  • Tinned goods
  • Breakfast items such as cereal and porridge¬†
  • Spices and dried herbs
  • See detailed list here¬†

We're launching our collection at the Eid al-Adha event with Mvesi spices on Wednesday 6th September and will have a collection table for donations during the event.

We'll be accepting donations until Friday 20th October.

Any donations that come in after our Mvesi Spices event should be dropped off at The Hub in the Q11 building.

If you'd like to coordinate a collection within your building and would like us to collect from you, please email hub@quorumbp.co.uk

Bike 4 Health Bike Train

11 Sep 2017 to 29 Sep 2017

In collaboration with Go Smarter, join a free Bike Train from Kingston Park and cycle to Quorum

Are you interested in cycling to work once the schools go back to avoid the roadworks?

Maybe you'l like to try cycling but aren't confident on finding the right routes, need some extra confidence building or help finding quieter roads.

Bike 4 Health will be attending our Mivesi Spices event on the 6th September where you can find out more info about the Bike Train.

I'm getting in touch regarding a free bike train that we're offering from 11th to 29th September. The proposed route will run from Kingston Park to Quorum Business Park, pickup and dropping off participants along the way.

The idea behind the bike train is to encourage individuals to use their bike to commute, leaving their car at home. Participants will learn a safe and easy route to travel to and from work which they can eventually ride by themselves.

This initiative is in collaboration with Go Smarter and here is a video which gives you a little more information.
