Recycling Wrappers for Girl Guides
With the environment being a hot topic in today’s agenda, The local girl guides have recently contacted me to get behind them, and to try and help them collate as many items that are not widely-recycled, to raise money for The Happiness Project (Facebook – @HappyForestHall).
The project was set up in January with Park View Care Home in Forest Hall to alleviate loneliness amongst the residents and encourage Brownies and Guides to play a more active role in their community. Initially they received a grant from the Lottery Community Fund however in order to make the project sustainable they have had to begin fundraising and this is where the ‘crisp packet’ collecting comes in.
Katrina, who works on-site at NCFE, is the Leader in Charge at 1st Forest Hall Guides informed me that- as a group of units, Girlguiding Forest Hall have been collecting certain types of non-recyclable rubbish for a while but realised that this could be a way of funding our project as well as having a serious impact on the amount of rubbish being left in the environment (another focus of Girlguiding). Working with Terracycle, they collect packaging (detailed below) which is then sent off to be recycled and for every package sent back, Terracycle donate money to our cause.
It would be great if the word could be spread around the business park so that anybody else interested in supporting us can easily do so. Within 2 weeks NCFE have managed to collect 1kg of rubbish, which is a phenomenal amount! I’m happy to liaise with whoever is the best contact at your office and arrange a collection on a weekly basis, or if people want to drop off their own collections, they can do so by dropping them off at either neon or Q11 reception.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you need more information.
